Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas will lead a workshop for all string players - violin (fiddle), viola, cello and bass. Other instruments welcome also. We will explore playing traditional music in a group, focusing on arrangement ideas as well as the techniques that give traditional music its particular flavor. We will look at the elements of language, rhythm and dance and how to put fiddle tunes together to form a medley or a larger piece of music. Teaching will be geared towards intermediate to advanced musicians but enthusiasts of all levels are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate at their level of ability.
*Tickets are required for this event - available in the Shar Showroom, online at www.sharmusic.com/tickets12409, or by phone: 800.248.SHAR (7427) |

Come visit our retail showroom! There you can browse the thousands of
items found in our catalog, from sheet music to
instruments. Every staff member in the Shar Retail Showroom is an
experienced string player. Whether you are a beginning or professional player, we are committed to helping you
find exactly what you need!
Here are some
helpful hints to keep in mind when visiting our showroom
- When
purchasing an instrument, allow at least 30 minutes to
1 hour. Each instrument (even the same model) will have a unique sound, so allow time to try a few and compare! The showroom carries instruments up to the Otto Ernst Fischer Model 150. If you are interested in a higher model, it is best to call 1.866.742.7270 and make an appointment with the Shar Violin Shop.
- When
purchasing a bow, bring your instrument. Like an
instrument, each bow has unique characteristics. A bow
played on your instrument may sound completely different
when played on another.
- When looking
for a new shoulder rest or chinrest, bring in your
instrument. You will be able to try them out on your
own instrument before you purchase.
- To determine
what size instrument a child needs, first ask for a
recommendation from your teacher. If you teacher
doesn't specify, no problem! Just bring your child to
the showroom and we can find the size that best suits the
player.
- Saturday is
our busiest day of the week. If you plan on visiting
us on a Saturday, allow a little extra time.

Wondering
whether to buy or rent?
Here are some benefits of our rental
program:
It's
inexpensive! Only $18/month for violins and violas and
$40/month for cellos. Half of your monthly rental payment is saved as Rental Credit that can be used towards buying a new instrument from Shar. Insurance and maintenance fees are included in the
rental fee so the instrument, case and bow are covered for the
extent of the time you rent. Our rentals are the same
student brands that we sell, so you know they're of high
quality.
It's
flexible! The contract is open ended so you can rent for as
long or as short a time as you would like. It's also easy
to switch instrument sizes any time your child needs with no
extra charge or penalty.
It's
easy! All you need to get a rental from Shar is a valid
credit card and the first months payment. The payments
from that time on are deducted automatically from either a
checking account or a credit card of your choosing.
